Are your firelighters eco-friendly and chemical free?
Yes. All Shelby Wood Company firelighters are made from natural wood wool and wax — completely free from paraffin and harmful chemicals. They produce no unpleasant odour and are safe to use in log burners, open fires, fireplaces, BBQs and pizza ovens.
What moisture content are your kiln dried logs?
Our kiln dried hardwood logs have a moisture content below 20%, meeting the Ready to Burn certification standard. Lower moisture means a hotter, more efficient burn, less smoke and less residue in your flue or chimney.
Are your products suitable for DEFRA Smoke Control Areas?
Our eco wax firelighters are suitable for use in smoke control areas as they burn cleanly with no harmful emissions. For logs, please check the Ready to Burn certification and your local authority guidelines.
How quickly will my order be delivered?
All UK mainland orders are dispatched on the same or next working day and delivered via free Royal Mail 48hr tracked delivery. You will receive a tracking number so you can follow your parcel from dispatch to doorstep. Customers in the West Midlands can also choose same-day local delivery.
What is the difference between kindling and firelighters?
Firelighters are the starting point — they catch quickly and produce a sustained flame to ignite kindling or small wood. Kindling is thin, dry wood that catches from the firelighter and builds enough heat to light larger logs. For the best results, use an eco firelighter first, then kindling, then add your kiln dried logs once the fire is established.
Can I use your firelighters in a BBQ or pizza oven?
Yes. Our natural wax firelighters are ideal for BBQs and pizza ovens. Because they contain no paraffin or chemical additives they do not taint food with odour or flavour. Simply place one or two under your charcoal or wood and light.
